Muir Woods shuttle tour FAQs
Common questions about visiting Muir Woods with our shuttle service from San Francisco.
Booking and reservations
Do I need a reservation to visit Muir Woods?
Yes. Muir Woods requires advance parking or shuttle reservations. Our shuttle tour includes your entry, so you don’t need to deal with parking reservations separately.
How far in advance should I book?
At least 2 to 3 days ahead, especially during peak season (May through October) and on weekends. Morning departures tend to sell out about a week in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your scheduled departure. Full refunds are processed within 3 to 5 business days.
Tour details
Where does the shuttle depart from?
From the Fisherman’s Wharf area in San Francisco, near public transit and parking. The exact pickup location is in your confirmation email.
How long is the tour?
About 4 hours total, including the drive and roughly 1.5 to 2 hours at Muir Woods.
What time do tours depart?
We run multiple departure times throughout the day. Morning tours are the most popular because the trails are less crowded and the light is better for photos. Check our booking page for current availability.
Is the tour guided?
Your driver shares commentary during the drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and into Marin County. At Muir Woods, you explore the trails on your own using the well-marked trail system.
What to expect
What should I wear?
Muir Woods stays cool year-round, typically 50 to 60 degrees, even when San Francisco is warm. Bring layers and comfortable walking shoes. The trails can be damp, so waterproof footwear is a good idea during rainy season.
Is the park wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The main trail (Boardwalk Loop) is paved and wheelchair accessible. It’s a half-mile loop through old-growth redwood groves.
Can I bring my dog?
No. Pets are not allowed on trails at Muir Woods. Service animals are permitted. We can’t accommodate pets on the shuttle either.
Is food available at Muir Woods?
The Muir Woods Trading Company has a small cafe with snacks, coffee, and light meals. Eating is only allowed in designated areas outside the forest.
Shuttle vs. driving
Why take the shuttle instead of driving?
No worrying about the limited parking, no need to book parking reservations weeks ahead, your driver handles the winding roads, everyone in the group gets to enjoy the views, and when you add up parking fees, gas, and bridge tolls, the shuttle price is competitive.
How much does parking at Muir Woods cost?
Parking reservations are $9 per vehicle, plus $15 per adult for entrance. Add the Golden Gate Bridge toll ($9) and gas, and it adds up. Our shuttle includes everything.
Sausalito add-on
Can I visit Sausalito on the same trip?
Yes. Our Muir Woods and Sausalito combo tour includes free time in Sausalito, a waterfront town known for its houseboats, art galleries, and views of San Francisco across the bay.
How much time do we spend in Sausalito?
About 45 minutes to an hour. Enough time to walk the waterfront, grab lunch, or browse shops.
